A one-day event in collaboration with Canadian Innovation Space to spotlight the World Civility Index (WCI) and its growing impact across four urgent areas of social and technological innovation.
The World Civility Index is a Canadian-led soft skills measurement platform that tracks daily efforts in empathy, etiquette, and personal wellness. Officially recognized by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs and a contributing author under Harvard University’s Inner Development Goals (IDG), WCI represents a new infrastructure for relational governance in the AI era.
The event will highlight how WCI addresses four global challenges:
Job Credentialing
WCI provides standardized, verifiable metrics for soft skills, allowing Human Resource departments to evaluate civility, intercultural awareness, and work ethic—comparing candidates “apples with apples” with unprecedented objectivity and efficiency.
Corporate ESG Reporting
By offering a neutral, third-party measurement of workplace culture, WCI helps companies credibly fulfill the ‘S’ (Social) in ESG, reducing the risk of greenwashing and strengthening investor confidence.
Graduated Universal Basic Income (UBI)
WCI is being piloted as a policy layer in future UBI frameworks—where individuals demonstrating higher engagement in civic behavior and personal wellness can qualify for increased benefits, thereby aligning dignity with economic inclusion.
AI Alignment and Safety
AI leaders such as Dr. Geoffrey Hinton and Mo Gawdat have warned of the existential risks of value-misaligned AI systems. WCI data—via real human efforts in civility—can help set pretraining standards for AI, serving as a “cultural DNA” to embed empathy and social responsibility into machine learning models.
We believe this event would be a strong fit for the Canadian Innovation Space’s mission to amplify innovation with purpose, ethics, and human values. It would also offer an opportunity to feature Canada’s leadership in defining the future of work, sustainability, and technology governance.
