Equity and Inclusion
Thivya Jeyapalan is an inspiring innovator and the national winner of the Equity and Inclusion category of the 2023 Ingenious+ innovation challenge for her innovative program, The Key of Sight Music Program. This program provides specialized music programs to disabled individuals in Canada, creating resources and workshops that encourage neglected youth, adults, and other vulnerable people to express themselves through music. The goal of the program is to empower individuals by providing a creative outlet and a sense of community through music.
The Key of Sight Music Program offers free online curriculum that parents and educators can use to deliver music content independently. After months of work, I received $10,000 through the Ingenious+ National Innovation Award to explore new methods to teach music to blind kids.
The competition is for 14- to 18-year-old Canadians who want to grow their innovations and ideas.
It was a huge privilege and made me feel empowered.
I felt pride and confidence like never before.
