Technovation Montréal

Technovation Montréal is a non-profit organization that accompanies girls in the creation of their business and the development of a tech solution that addresses an issue in their community. The mission is to equip young women aged 8-18 with the tools and mentorship they need to become entrepreneurs and leaders in the technology field.

Our goal includes closing the gender gap in technology, building resilience in participants, and addressing existing inequities in the industry by encouraging girls to develop their entrepreneurial spirit, leadership, technical skills, and ability to generate positive social impact through technology. In particular, we are dedicated to ensuring a greater representation of diverse women in the industry.

Our project-based learning programs are aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (#4 quality education, #5 gender equality, #8 women’s economic independence, #10 reducing inequality). With the support of a community of corporate partners, key actors of the Montréal and Québec startup ecosystem, and volunteer mentors, teams of two to five participants develop a business project that responds to a problem or need identified in their community by either designing a mobile application, developing a video game or learning the basics of artificial intelligence.

The six-month programs cover all the steps leading to the creation of a business, while learning the basics of computer programming. These programs teach the basics of the business world to Montréal and Québec businesswomen of tomorrow and gives them access to a science and technology showcase. These projects also have a direct impact on the girls’ nucleus community by identifying their immediate needs.

With the help of mentors from the technology startup ecosystem, we accompany young girls in all the steps leading to the creation of a technological product: from market analysis, as well as customer interviews to validate the adequacy between the identified problem and the proposed application, from the establishment of a commercialization plan to the development of the design and functionalities of the application. Their involvement is critical to allow young girls to concretely apply the concepts taught to their project and to more easily imagine the daily life of a career in technology.
