2018 Governor General’s Innovation Award laureate, Mary Gordon appeared on The Today Show on October 17, 2019, in a segment titled “How baby ‘teachers’ in classrooms are teaching older kids empathy.”
The program celebrated the success of Roots of Empathy which began in Canada in 1996 and now operates in 14 countries around the world. Roots of Empathy’s unique concept of bringing babies into a classroom teaches children empathy and helps reduce aggression and bullying in school-aged children. In this experiential learning, the baby is the “Teacher” and through the program, young students learn how their actions can affect others.
